Tree Jasmine (Radermachera ignea)
The common Thai name of Radermachera ignea (Kurz) Steenis is “Kasalong Kham” or “Peep Thong.” It is the provincial tree of Chiang Rai. Propagated by seed, this deciduous tree grows to a height of 6-20 meters.
The flowering period begins from March to April. The leaves are bipinnate or tripinnate, and the orange-yellow flowers are tubular and 4 -7 cm long. The Shan people eat the flowers as a vegetable that is blanched and pounded before it is stir-fried with pork or chicken, and eaten with rice.
