The Legend Chiang Rai
After staying at the resort last weekend and spending much time experiencing the ‘magic’ I have tried to put this into words. Best facilities, and I feel this is desirable to get the ‘magic’ across – it is indeed a ‘special place’ unlike all others in Chiang Rai. ….Mr.Basil (Stayed in August 2014.)
The Legend Chiang Rai Boutique Riverside Resort & Spa is a special place.
Guests staying here enjoy a carefree faraway feeling, like being in the countryside, yet the resort is only a few minutes by car from the city. The river adds another dimension to this. Its slow-moving face reflects sunlight and cloud, dawn and dusk; ever-changing images, which calm the spirit and inspire finer thoughts. At any time of day, the eye travels easily over spreading rain trees and tropical vegetation to a backdrop of distant mountains. There could hardly be a nicer location to spend a holiday, or a romantic honeymoon.
The shaded 12 rai (4.7 acres) resort interior is a tranquil haven for birds, honey bees and butterflies. Rich soil nourishes tall trees, soft ferns, orchids, frangipani and scented flowers. Meandering pathways pass softly splashing fountains, lotus-filled ponds, and cross over tiny ornamental bridges. Shafts of sunlight perform dances of light and shade as they find spaces in the breeze-blown greenery above. This is a reserve of simple natural beauty, where vibrant colours blend perfectly with terracotta earth tones.
In this idyllic setting, traditional Lanna architecture blends harmoniously with modern amenities. The 78 low-rise studios and villas, all with a private patio or veranda, provide comprehensive facilities, teakwood furniture, comfort, and contentment. Tropical -style bathrooms add an exotic extra touch, and four deluxe pool villas provide the ultimate in secluded privacy on the river bank. All guest rooms are equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi internet.
Two restaurants provide ample opportunities for fine dining. The Sala Rim Nam Riverside Terrace with its open kitchen, panoramic vista and wide menu choices makes an appealing venue for breakfast, lunch, a leisurely dinner, or a tasty bite at any time of day. At sunset, the Wine Casa Italian Restaurant reaches out into the gathering dusk with flickering candlelight and soft music. Here, the extensive menu of Italian specialities and inexpensive wines may pose some difficult choices, easily solved by recommendations from willing staff. They know their jobs well, and they love what they do.
Set against the moving backdrop of the brown river, the blue infinity edge swimming pool offers intriguing perspectives and parallels, viewed from any angle. This is the sunlit heart of The Legend, where an ambience of pure relaxation prevails. Personal worries and work stresses fade, moods are elevated, and new friendships easily formed. A few steps from here, the hotel gym, the Chiang Saen Herbal Spa and a small library offer unhurried opportunities for exercise, healing therapies or quiet study. The small 80-seat well-equipped river view conference room is a perfect venue for weddings, private parties or seminars.
An evening shuttle bus service to the local night market facilitates shopping for bargains (and transporting them back!) For slower-paced outings, bicycles can be rented, or pedal rickshaws can be hired with your own personal driver. Both options provide a lovely way of exploring the picturesque small lanes, discovering the hidden corners of the city, and experiencing pleasant encounters with friendly local people. Excursions of all types can be arranged with the tour desk in the lobby.
This is our riverside sanctuary for the senses. If your preference is a high-rise international chain hotel with perfectly trimmed gardens and template-trained staff, it is surely not for you.
If however you enjoy nature, courteous but unpretentious service, good food and spontaneous hospitality in peaceful surroundings, please do come and stay with us.
You will be more than welcome.
